Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E)

The D.A.R.E. program is a cooperative agreement between the Clarkston, Asotin and Pomeroy school districts. It is a 12-week program covering a wide range of topics including, but not limited to:
  • Drugs: Effects and Dangers
  • Choices
  • Decision Making Skills
  • Risk Assessment
  • Peer Pressure
  • Writing Skills

Nationwide D.A.R.E. is taught in 70 percent of school districts and according to the "Monitoring the Future" study teenage drug use continues to fall, decreasing 19 percent in the last four years.

Does D.A.R.E. make a difference? Talk to the parents of D.A.R.E. graduates who have told me numerous times how it has opened up communications for them and how they would much rather have their children get the information from me as opposed to a stranger of friend "In the know". Numerous kids and high school graduates have come back to me saying that what I told them worked and they did have a response when confronted with drugs. That alone makes the whole program worth it for me.
